DXpedition Contact

I love to make contacts with special event stations and I was able to contact a group on. DXpedition to Juan Fernandez Island off the coast of Venezuela.

The expedition will continue until November 20th so you have plenty of time. They are operating on nearly every band and using every mode.

I made contact on 17m and they were using a 5up split.  Click the link below for their site with info on the team, bands, modes and schedule as well as the all important QSL info.

CHASING SIGNALS

I am not a contest operator and don't sit around and ragchew.   I am more of a listener who will occasionally throw his call out when he hears an interesting contact.

I have made less than 200 contacts in total (not including field day) but love the thought of getting awards for making contacts.

2 of the EASIEST to earn are the WORKED ALL CONTINENTS (which is a little misleading as its not really ALL of them) and WORKED ALL STATES. Even with these being somewhat easier to accomplish
they can still be quite a challenge due to your location, gear, and/or atmospheric conditions.

For me, the hardest part of WORKED ALL CONTINENTS will be getting OCEANIA (which includes Australia, New ZealandMinami Torishima, Philippines, Eastern Malaysia and Indonesia).

And likewise for WORKED ALL STATES my difficult contacts will be HAWAII and ALASKA.

But 10 Meters has been open pretty nicely over the last few weeks and I fired up my radio for the first time since FIELD DAY 2013 and started scanner the band.  The GRAY LINE had already past and it was closing in on 8pm.  I was able to pick up a few signal and one of them was making several short contacts.  Listened a bit and found his call to be in ANCHORAGE, ALASKA.  UNFORTUNATELY he took a break as the band was starting to go and I ended up loosing him.  But I DID get lucky enough to find another fellow in FAIRBANKS, ALASKA.   He was in a rather lengthy QSO and I couldnt copy the other side.  I waited for them to wrap up and tried to call back to him but couldnt make it.

Hopefully the ALASKA crew will stay out on 10M for as long as these openings last so I can get another shot.

Even though I didnt make the Alaska contact I WAS able to snap one to COSTA RICA so still not a bad evening.
